Word is my seed
Work in progress – a selection of some of the poems/text-works/mind-scultpures

I'm experimenting with words as sculpture, text-work as immaterial or as-less-immaterial-as-possible forms of sculpture.
This work is inspired by my PhD research on queering the land, land art, Ana Mendieta, earth spirituality and neo-materialism.
I have started this process thinking how I could create work that was as less polluting as possible, but equally that could queer the land, by considering words and the spoken language as matter entangling with people/readers/listeners’ thoughts, creating sculptures in their minds/thoughts/dreams.
The result is a (long) sequence of short poems evoking the brevity of social media messages, the fast-paced nature of our lives, or the short attention spans and fleeting memories that define our times. They represent a spell making of some sort, micro-poems or haiku-style poems that can be considered singularly or as a long deconstructed poem, one word in a poem as a catalyst for another subsequent poem.
This work is becoming a book, but also each text/poem/mind-scultpure are intended as visual work to be shown in different forms/formats/embodiments. I'm also experimenting with painting, re-writing the same poem over and over again until it becomes incomprehensible and abstract, a performative gesture similar to spell casting.
